funny facts

found this at ika's. funny... so thought i would share it around.

did you know....??

if you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(hardly seems worth it.)

if you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.
(now that's more like it!)

the human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.
(O.M.G.!)

a pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.
(in my next life, i want to be a pig.)

a cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death.
(creepy...)
(i'm still not over the pig.)

banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.
(do not try this at home. maybe at work.)

the male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. the female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.
("honey, i'm home. what the....?!")

the flea can jump 350 times its body length. it's like a human jumping the length of a football field.
(30 minutes... lucky pig. can you imagine??)

the catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.
(what could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

some lions mate over 50 times a day.
(i still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity)

butterflies taste with their feet..
(something i always wanted to know.)

the strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.
(hmmmmmm........)

right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
(if you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.
(ok, so that would be a good thing....................)

a cat's urine glows under a black light.
(i wonder who was paid to figure that out?)

an ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.
(i know some people like that.)

starfish have no brains.
(i know some people like that too..)

polar bears are left-handed.
(if they switch, they'll live a lot longer.)

humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.
(what about that pig??)

the black & gold box

god gave me two boxes. he told me to put all my sorrow in the black box and all joy in the gold box.

day by day, i did what he said. the gold become heavier but the black was as light as before.

with curiousity, i open the black and that there is a hole in the base which my sorrows had fallen out.

i asked god "i wonder where my sorrow could be?"

he smiled, "my child, they're all here with me."

i mused, "why did you give me the black box with hole?"

"my child, the gold is for you to count your blessings and the black is for you to let go."

kevin sent the message over sms. thanks for sharing, kev!

i am thankful for everything that the lord gave me. i feel blessed. thank you lord for letting me realise how fortunate i am. thank you for being there when i needed you. thank you for being there when i thought i did not need you. thank you for coming into my life. please strengthen my faith in you and let me grow to be a wiser and better person. thank you for everything.

bananas to digital one

recently, kabelvision decided to upgrade to digital tv. and the apartment that i am stayin in is one of its first target to be upgraded.

the result according to me: quality of image is more sharp. improvement in sound quality is slightly noticeable. however, hassle to broswe through the channels (have to press up/down and then wait one second before the image shows up on tv). for those people who like to browse through their channels, chosing a program to watch tv has become so difficult that it is unenjoyable.

plus we paid for the family plan, which means two tv to be connected but they only gave one converter. the technician told me the price to install an extra converter would be 250rb. my cousin told me she had hers for 50rb. what's with all these bananas these days?

and they told me that they were supposed to give me free hbo and hbo signature. but all i got was "access denied". bananas digital one.

i've lodged a complain to their call center. they better give me a better answer!

update on the complain:
first, kablevision decided to give me the second converter for free. arrangement for installation will be scheduled. second, nothing can be done to minimise time for image to show when going up and down the channel. third, no free upgrades. justice was done overall... so i'm still quite satisfied. plus they responded fast to my complains.

note: i have tried to make some new resolutions by replacing unpleasant words with fruit names (idea by kennie). quite cool and it sounds much better.

recognizing a stroke

a neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke totally. he said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed and getting to the patient within 3 hours which is tough.

sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. the stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1. ask the individual to smile
2. ask the individual to raise both arms
3. ask the person to speak a simple sentence coherently) (It is sunny out today)

if he or she has trouble with any of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

after discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could identify facial weakness, arm weakness, and speech problems, researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions. widespread use of this test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.

a cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people, you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

be a friend and share this article with as many friends as possible, you could save a life.

***

i got this from an email, but i guess it is true. another thing that my mum said was, use a needle to poke the stroke victim's finger. but that may be for victims with heavy stroke. the lighter stroke are the ones that are difficult to identify. anyway, better be safe than sorry.

holiday fever

the fifth day of my holiday and i am still hoping that it's only the second. tomorrow's sunday, which means i have to wake up early to go church tomorrow. which also means i only have one more day to sleep in till afternoon. arghhhh... i'm such a sleepyhead.

lots of events happened during the past weeks. a day's time can change people's decision so much. a lot of things can be achieved in a day. i guess i should not be wasting my time then. :)

i ate some plastics

ughh... horrible isn't it?

i asked my adorable helper (she is sincerely nice, but a bit doo-doo in the head sometimes) to help me blend some watermelon juice. and it tasted rather unusual today... as in too many seeds particals.

a while ago, she showed me that the plastic handle which was used to mix the fruits inside the blender was broken.
she continued to say that i could have drank all the broken plastic in. doh! felt kind of sick when she told me that. when asked how that happened, she told me that she took out the lid and used the plastic handle to poke the watermelon. double doh!

tini just smiled. i did not have the heart to scold her. i mean, i know she was not the smart type. but well she is nice, honest, hardworking and have a big warm smile. however, i did told her that she cannot do that anymore the next time.

and i begin to wonder what things they serve in restaurants sometimes.

as i lay me down

a song that i used to like and is still on my favourite list. all the happy memories.

* * *

by sophie b. hawkins

it felt like springtime on this february morning
in the courtyard birds were singing your praise
i'm still recalling things you said to make me feel alright
i carried them with me today, now

as i lay me down to sleep
this i pray
that you will hold me dear
though i'm far away
i'll whisper your name into the sky
and i will wake up happy

i wonder why i feel so high
though i am not above the sorrow
heavy hearted
till you call my name
and it sounds like church bells
or the whistle of a train
on a summer evening
i'll run to meet you
barefoot barely breathing

it's not too near for me
like a flower i need the rain
though it's not clear to me
every season has its change
and i will see you
when the sun comes out again
